How to Increase Business Success Through Golf

    By admin | November 28, 2006

Did you know that Golf can have a tremendous impact on your business success?

A round of golf can open doors to business success that would otherwise be so much more difficult. Playing golf develops business networks and business introductions that can be far more powerful than advertising.

Friendships and business associations are strengthened during a round of golf

Golf can become the foundation of lasting business relationships. Where else would one get the opportunity to spend as much as 4 to 6 hours of quality time with a business client or colleague?

On the golf course there are no distractions that occur in an office situation. The atmosphere is relaxed, and people are playing golf to enjoy themselves and get away from pressures of everyday business life. Business golf is not about having a business meeting on the golf course. Many new contracts, job offers, and business opportunities have all been birthed on the golf course.

A round of golf can bring out the worst and the best in people; many fundamentals of golf apply to the business world. This is why business leaders play golf with their important clients and suppliers.

The link between golf and business is so strong that when you get to a certain level of management, you are almost expected to play golf. Golf is the sport if you want to move forward. Golf reveals other playing partners’ personalities. How a player responds to pressure, failure and success becomes evident, along with character and integrity in how well your business associate abides by the ethics and rules of the game.

Understanding golf etiquette is more important than your golf skills . Knowing when to talk, where to stand when it’s not your turn, taking care of the course, driving the golf cart, are all important points that can affect how business relationships develop on the golf course.

Having the right mix can affect the success of a golf round. This could be the skill levels, how well the players would get along, or even the dollar value of business represented by each player. Getting the right blend of people will be a critical factor in how successful your business golf will be.

Be prepared to give a quick summary of what you and your business is all about.

People are not so much interested in job titles as gaining an understanding of how you fit in, and whether they would see any benefit in exploring a business relationship with you.

Being on the golf course should not mean that you are unprepared to make some business contacts. When someone asks for your business card, be sure that you can hand one out. When all the socialising is finished on the nineteenth hole, do not let the opportunity fade to oblivion by forgeting to follow up back at the office.

Maximize your business opportunities on the golf course. Take a few lessons, or attend a few golf clinics so you feel more confident about your game. Ask around for a golf coach who is focused on using golf as a business tool.
